Welcome to the Virtual Archive of Wild Heerbrugg

in the 20th century Heinrich Wild and Wild Heerbrugg revolutionized  the surveying instruments and thus the whole surveying buisness.

With this site I want to make a small contribution to keep it well known. You will find all kind of interesting facts about history, but also information to earlier products.

Exactly 100 years ago, on April 26, 1921, Heinrich Wild, Robert Helbling and Jacob Schmidheiny founded a company called Heinrich Wild, Werkstätte für Feinmechanik und Optik, Heerbrugg.
In 1923 Heinrich Wild's geodetic instruments was founded and in 1954 Wild Heerbrugg AG emerged.
After the takeover of Ernst Leitz Wetzlar GmbH, the Wild Leitz Group emerged and was renamed in 1990 to Leica.
1997-1998 they split up into Leica Microsystems AG, Leica Geosystems AG and Leica Camera AG.
In 2000, Leica Geosystems AG went public and in 2005 Hexagon AB took over the majority of the shares.
These are just a few steps in the eventful history of the past 100 years - the small workshop in the Entenbad in Heerbrugg has grown into a globally successful company.

On the occasion of these anniversary, a book was also published with me as co-author:

100 YEARS INNOVATION HEERBRUGG

Heinrich Wild founded his workshop for precision mechanics and optics in Heerbrugg – a key milestone in the 200-year history of Swiss geomatics. Today, the innovation of WILD Heerbrugg continues to live on within Hexagon and its iconic brand Leica Geosystems. As part of 200yr Swiss Geo X, Hexagon is taking this opportunity to celebrate the history and the future of geosciences with several events.
